The biggest question we get: "How do I earn points?":
1. Check in feats.
Every feat is worth a defined number of points. If you do it, you get the points!(Watch out for surprise bonuses from our partners and your Goals, as well.)
2. Give, and get, props.
When you get props, it's worth one point. When you give a prop, it's also worth one point, up to 50 a day!3. Take challenges.
Discover challenges from DailyFeats, our partners, and members like you. If you accomplish all the feats within the time limit, you'll earn a bonus!DailyFeats helps you do good things. It'll guide you in doing small but significant actions -- or "feats" -- that add up to big changes.
Whenever you do a feat -- from eating fresh fruit to climbing a mountain -- check it in at DailyFeats. You'll earn points. Once you've racked up enough points, you can redeem them for rewards right in your neighborhood or from national brands, or donations by our partners to 501(c)3 nonprofits.
- Right here at DailyFeats.com. Describe any feat using the handy quick check-in bar on the right side of any page, using its !bangtag or plain old English, and see what matches -- then share the details of your feat so it can inspire others! (Not sure where to start? Browse feats to see all the available feats, and click "did it" under any feat to check it in.)
- Visit DailyFeats.com on your smartphone; you'll automatically see a mobile-optimized interface. (Apps for Android and iPhone are on their way.)
- Send us a text message at (617) 396-7810, describing your feat (use its !bangtag or just describe it in plain English). Make sure you've linked your phone number to your account.
- Link your Foursquare or Facebook Places account to your DailyFeats account, and certain feats (like going to the gym, or your classes) will check in automatically.
That's up to you. Some people like to check in their feats right as they're doing them (often using mobile, SMS, or IM); other people like to visit once or twice a day and check in their feats in bulk. The only restriction is that we ask you only check in feats you've done in the past 24 hours.
Much of DailyFeats is built to help you achieve goals: making positive actions a bigger part of your everyday life. You can add a goal to every feat, by first adding it to My Feats, then choosing how many times per week you'd like to accomplish it. You'll see all your goals in My Feats view, waiting for you; the progress bar under each habit will tell you how far you've gotten this week, and Randall the Rooster (the little orange guy at the top of My Feats) will encourage you onward. Once you fill the bar, it's time to celebrate -- and plan to accomplish your goal again next week!
Communities at DailyFeats connect like-minded people to talk about the feats, and ideas, that are most relevant to them. You can join as many communities are you like, and participate in conversations about that community's topics. All conversations are public, aimed at helping the community do feats better -- often with help and leadership from the volunteer Coaches of each community (click here to learn more about Coaching).
Your Team are the people who give you inspiration and motivation -- helping you do feats more often, and building their own good habits in the process. Your Team will appear on the right side of your main DailyFeats screen: you can watch their progress as it happens. Invite a Teammate by clicking the 'people' icon next to one of your habits: you can use email or Facebook.
Your Life Score at DailyFeats represents how well you're doing. It's based on the amount and frequency of feats you check in; more feats mean a higher score, but just as in real life, you make a bigger difference when you're consistent over time. If you leave DailyFeats for a couple of days (such as over the weekend) your score won't drop very much, but it will gradually fall if you do fewer or no feats. Think of it as a reminder to keep your progress up!
Challenges are there to, well, challenge you; they're our way of encouraging you (and everyone) to try new feats and create good habits. Accept any challenge and you'll be asked to accomplish several specific feats within a few days, and earn a big points bonus if you get them done in time. There are always new challenges being posted, both officially by DailyFeats and our partners, and by members like you; just select the feats you'd like to encourage, explain (optionally) how and when people should do them, give it a title and a point value, and your challenge will be posted for everyone to try. Build challenges to encourage your friends, family, and the DailyFeats community, or to help guide your own efforts to make change.
Your personal settings help DailyFeats understand you better -- it makes our recommendations and suggestions more accurate. Plus, your status is shared with others in DailyFeats feeds. Change these settings (you can be in as many as you want) by visiting your account settings.
Epic feats are the feats our members are most proud of. If you've accomplished something that you think is really meaningful, noteworthy, amazing, or -- well -- epic, click the "Epic" toggle in your check-in box. Epic feats are shown at the top of every feed, so lots of people get to see them and be inspired by them; to keep things interesting, we require that you either upload a picture or enter at least 140 characters of text for your feat to qualify as epic.
Props are little positive comments that DailyFeats members share with each other. You can give props to feats that inspire you, make you laugh, or simply that you like and want to comment on; every prop is worth 1 point to the person who gives it and the person who receives it, up to 50 a day, so give freely!
Get rewards! You can earn rewards starting at just 50 points; browse rewards to find rewards near you (there's all kinds of local rewards, from coffee shops to gyms to museums, and more), or check out our premium rewards for big-time savings. Or, put your points toward donations by our partners to 501(c)3 nonprofits.
DailyFeats' partners are a coalition of businesses and nonprofits who share our belief that doing good should be meaningful -- so they contribute to DailyFeats by sponsoring specific feats and issuing you a double-points bonus when you complete those feats. You can identify a partner-supported feat by the "DOUBLE POINTS" icon on its stamp, or the partner's logo above the How and Why explanation on its feat page.
Feats are actions that make a substantive contribution to good, proven either by accepted science or common sense to be beneficial to people and their communities. Every feat idea must pass that test before it's included in DailyFeats -- we're very serious about that. But ultimately the decision is up to you: a feat is only as good as DailyFeats members make it, and your choice to check it in (or not) really defines its value.
Click on any stamp or !bangtag and you'll visit a feat page, a page dedicated to that particular feat. We've written short explanations of Why every feat is a good thing, and How you can do it; read those explanations, as well as other members' stories of how they accomplished the feat, and you'll learn about that action quickly.
We determine point values by balancing the difficulty of a feat with the frequency that it can be done. A feat that can be done infinite times in a day, or that can be done without leaving your chair or thinking very hard, is worth one point; feats that can only be done once or twice a year, or that require months of intensive preparation, are worth 50+ points. We gauge every feat on these terms, and use our judgment to give it a point value that matches.
It's important to remember that points are not indicators of a feat's value or positivity; we strongly believe that all feats are positive and important, regardless of how difficult or easy they are. In practice this works well. For example, choosing to give blood is more difficult and ambitious for most people than eating a banana - and it's also something you obviously wouldn't do as frequently -- so it's worth 25x more. If you have a banana, an orange, and a few grapes a day for a week, you earn as many points as if you'd given blood once.
Great! Share it with us here -- we're always reviewing new ideas. If your idea is accepted, you'll get a big reward of bonus points.
DailyFeats asks that you check in only the feats you've actually done today, or in the past 24 hours. (Otherwise they wouldn't be "daily" feats!) As for getting points for feats you haven't actually completed, the simple answer is that we trust our members.
If a check-in looks really suspect, you can flag it to call attention to a potential problem. We have several other built-in tools and algorithms to prevent misuse, but we're proud to say we rarely have to use them.
Local rewards come from businesses and vendors in your area, like coffee shops and museums; they're savings on purchases you're already making, and opportunities to try new things that might be good for you. And they start at just 50 points.
Premium rewards are gift cards from national brands; they cost more points, but they give you pure purchasing power at stores & brands you trust.
We're working on adding more kinds of rewards -- including social & virtual rewards, as well as the ability to trigger donations to worthy causes -- so stay tuned.
For local rewards, just click 'Redeem' and you'll see a popup window with a printable reward voucher. Print it and use it at a local business! (Let us know if you have trouble. Remember, you can only redeem the same particular local coupon once per year.) Some premium rewards take a bit longer: some will arrive by email as digital codes, while others are processed by U.S. Mail (which means 2-3 weeks of processing and delivery time).
Important note: some premium rewards have a * on the Rewards page. This means you can only redeem one (of any starred reward) per 30 days. This helps keep reward usage balanced, and sustainable for us. Rewards without *s can be redeemed as often as you like!
That's true -- you can get ice cream and pizza, among other things, with DailyFeats rewards. This is deliberate; although we hope you'll choose to use your rewards on healthy things (there are plenty of gyms, boat rides, museums, and bookstores to try), it's up to you to treat yourself however you see fit. After all, part of living a healthy lifestyle is making room for an occasional indulgence -- if a cup of ice cream once a month helps you stay on track for the other 30 days, good for you!
You can choose the privacy level for every feat you check in. If you select 'just me', only you will see that you've checked in that feat; if you select 'my team', only your approved team members will be able to see that check-in. If you select 'everybody', which is the default choice, that check-in is public: it'll be visible in the DailyFeats Everybody feed, on feat pages, in widgets on other sites, and potentially shared or quoted by others on the Internet.
We never share individual members' data with anyone (unless we need your address to send you a reward, in which case it's shared with our gift-card reward partner, or if required by law). The only data we share is aggregated and anonymized.
To close your account, email us directly at help@dailyfeats.com from the email address of your account. We'll be sad to see you go, but we'll disable it and take down its feats right away.
DailyFeats is supported by partners, who pay us for the opportunity to align their brand with positive actions. You'll see them around the site; they support specific feats that connect with their mission & values. We've built a coalition of partners, including nonprofits (who don't pay us), that support the goal of helping people live better.
Our True North explains this in more detail -- basically, we're committed to the idea of socially responsible entrepreneurship, and we think we have an amazing opportunity here to help countless people make their lives (and the world) better while building a sustainable business. So really the question is why not?
